Un intenso sistema temporalesco a supercella ha attraversato buona parte dello Stato del Texas tra le giornate di giovedì e di venerdì causando gravissimi danni. Nella zona settentrionale del Paese associati ai forti temporali si sono registrati anche alcuni tornado preceduti da devastanti grandinate mentre nella zona meridionale le forti piogge hanno ingrossato alcuni fiumi facendoli straripare. Una delle zone maggiormente colpite dalle alluvioni è l'area tra Livingston e Houston dove l'acqua in alcuni punti ha superato il metro e mezzo di altezza. A migliaia gli interventi dei vigili del fuoco con i mezzi anfibi per trarre in salvo famiglie intrappolate ai piani alti delle abitazioni.
